Decorative plant in gardens, rockery. Medicinal, culinary and aromatic plant. Dry flowers and leaves. It is used against cough, colds, bronchitis and to make gargling in case of throatache. In cooking recipes it is used to season salads, game and mushrooms. It tastes a little spicy. The fresh and dry leaves can be used as an insect repellent. It was used to purify Christian temples and to look after lepers.
Evergreen small shrub up to 30-60 cm with hermaphrodite deep blue flowers. Lanceolate leaves and bright red or orangey berries. Intense aroma.
Grows on dry well-drained and calcium rich soils.
Direct sowing.
