One of the most popular landscape palms, the stout form of the Canary Island Date Palm is a familiar sight in most warm temperate and subtropical countries of the world. Cold tolerant (-9 ºC) palm. Ornamental use for parks, avenues, gardens and indoor plant.
It is a large palm, 10-20m tall. The leaves are pinnate, 4–6 m long. The fruit is an oval, yellow to orange drupe which contains a single large seed. The fruit pulp is edible but too thin to be worth eating.
Soak the seeds in cool water for 3-5 days before sowing at temperatures of 20ºC night/30ºC day.
