SEEDS OF BLACK CHERRY - PRUNUS SEROTINA

Ornamental. Fragrant, white flowers. Good timber. Medicinal properties. Edible fruit. Hedges. Astringent, digestive, coughing and expectorating properties from its branches, leaves, buds and fruit. Its bitter tasting fruit is edible fresh.

Deciduous tree growing up to 30m with green, lanceolate and serrated leaves. Black-reddish berries. Small and white fragrant flowers in spring.

It grows on acid soils from fresh to humid ones.

Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from March to May. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 5-6 mois before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
