SEEDS OF COMMON HAZEL - CORYLUS AVELLANA

Common Hazel is found in meadows, along streams, paths and in woodlands. It is used to create hedges and for nuts production. Hazelnuts are eaten raw, toasted or cooked. They are used in pastry and for oil making. The nuts are food for the wildlife. The bark, fruit, leaves and seeds have nutritional, astringent properties. The wood is used in marquetry work and cabinet making. Dowsers look for water with Hazel rods.

Deciduous tree growing up to 4m with hairy and oval leaves. Small yellow and red flowers. The fruit is the hazelnut.

Prefers light, fertile soilsApprox. 400 seeds per kilo.

Soak the seeds in cool water for 96 hours. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 4-5 months before the sowing.
