Montpellier Maple

Mediterranean small tree perfect for hedges, parks and small gardens. Used in the art of bonsai. Its hard and strong wood is popular in cabinet making to create luxurious objects and in framework. It is also a good firewood. The leaves are used as fodder. It is used in landscaping, to fix the riverbanks, to control floods and erosion, in slopes.

Deciduous, dense tree reaching 10m. The wood of the young trees is greyish and smooth becoming finely fissured on old trees. The lobe leaves are dark green and they are porous. The flowers grow in bunches and they are yellow-greenish.

It needs siliceous, dry and rocky soils.

Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from February to April.To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 60-90 days before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
