Small evergreen tree up to 7 m tall with widespread branching. White flowers. The fruit is pink red. It is used as pink pepper. Ornamental for its decorative foliage. Culinary. Bonsai.
It grows on siliceous, light, neutral and dry soils. Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours before sowing from March till May.
