Ornamental shrub which can be grown singular or in hedges. It is used for its wood and its sour tasting acorns can feed goats and pigs.

Deciduous shrub growing up to 2m with yellow flowers. Spiny-serrated coriaceous leaves. The acorn is held in a thorny cup.
It adapts very well to any types of soils.
Direct sowing in Autumn or Cold stratification for 2 months before sowing in Spring (no later than April).
