In some regions the fruit is an ingredient in liqueur making. It is used in the art of bonsaï. The wood is a good firewood traditonally used by bakers a long time ago. It is useful to make umbrela sticks.
Deciduous shrub with clustered white flowers. It can grow up to 5m. The leaves are heart-shaped with a serrated edge. The fruit is a non edible and densely sour tasting small cherry.
It prefers limestone and stony soils.
Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from February to April. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 4-5 months before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
