Ornamental tree with edible fruits to be grown as an alignment tree or as a bonsai. The fruits are edible, juices and jams are made with them. The leaves are a premium food for silkworms. The wood is very hard and of a good quality in turning, cabinet making and to make tool handles.
Deciduous tree growing up to 15m with very dense green spike-like flowers in spring. Large serrated leaves. Little white, red to blackish fruit. It prefers light and well drained soils.
Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours before sowing in spring or autumn, at temperatures of 10ºC night/20ºC day.
