Evergreen aromatic tree of about 30 m with lanceolate and pale green leaves becoming reddish before falling. Little white-yellowish flowers.The fruit is lobbed and reddish.

Soak the seeds in cool water for 48 hours before sowing at temperatures of 20ºC/30ºC.
It likes fertile, sandy and well drained soils.
By distilling its wood camphor oil is obtained. It has antiseptic and sedative properties. It relieves rheumatism. Its wood is used in cabinet making to make furniture. It is also a good timber.
