The European Chestnut is a very popular tree, planted for timber and fruit production. The colour of its leaves is spectacular in autumn.
The chesnut is an edible fruit for humans but also for animals. The leaves and bark have medicinal properties against cough and are also astringent and anti-diarrheal. The wood is used in construction, carpentry and cabinet making.
Deciduous tree of 30m tall with dark green leaves turning yellow-reddish in autumn. The little yellowish flowers will give the edible chesnut in autumn.
Prefers cool, siliceous and well drained soils under temperate climates.
Sowing outdoor in autumn/winter with fresh seeds.
