SEEDS OF ITALIAN ALDER - ALNUS CORDATA

A very popular tree commonly used as windbreaks. Perfect for large gardens and parks, for landscape planting all around estates or along riverbanks. Produces firewood or wood for paper. It is also used in dye. It can tolerate a coastal exposure and is known as a good pionner species able to fix nitrogen from the air. Riparian tree.

Deciduous tree growing up to 20-25m of a height. The leaves are glossy green and heart-shaped. The pale purple flowers turn gold when older.

Adapts to any soil prefering acid or slightly alkalin soils and regular watering.

Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 45 days before the sowing.
