Carpenters, turners and joiners like its whitish and strong wood. The flowers, fruit and bark have been used for their medicinal properties.
Large deciduous tree reaching 30-40m of height. Smooth and greyish bark. The leaves are dark green in color with a paler underside. They turn golden in autumn. The yellow-greenish flowers hang in dangling flowerheads. Its samaras are borne in pairs and ripe for late summer.
It needs the siliceous, cool and deep soils of the slopes and valleys of the mountainous regions. Resists frost and cool temperatures. Strong rooting system.
Cold stratification for 45-90 days. Direct sowing in february/March
