SEEDS OF SYDNEY GREEN WATTLE - ACACIA MEARNSII

This tree is used for ornamental purposes. It binds the erosion-prone soils and prevents desertification too. Its lovely sweet-smelling blooming and its fast-rate growing make it essential in ornamental gardens.

Evergreen tree which can be 5-7m high. Soft and brown bark. The bright and flat leaves open at daytime and close at nightfall. Scented bright yellow flowers.

The flowers are edible. They are used in fried dishes and fruit jelly making. Its bark gives an edible gum although it is of less quality compared to arabic gum. This specie is used for reforestation for erosion control and desertification.

Grows on siliceous and light soils either cool or humid soils but under a temperate mediterranean climate.

Place the seeds in boiling water for 5 seconds and immediately after transfer to running water with ice cubes in it. Soak for 24h and then proceed to the sowing maintaining temperatures of 20ºC until the germination is completed.
