Ornamental shrub used in gardens for hedges or grown in pots. It is of a great value in Asia for its oil. The seeds are squeezed to produce oil for culinary purpose. From its oil soaps and fabrics are made. It can be used to produce light and to protect small tools for cabinet-making. If used in gardens it creates wooded environments or green walls.
Evergreen shrub growing up to 7m tall with flashy dark-green leaves. The flowers are white and scented.
This plant prefers acid, sandy or clear humid soils.
