SEEDS OF FEIJOA - ACCA SELLOWIANA

Exotic evergreen shrub or small tree widely cultivated for its fruits. Good potplant also in groups or for hedges in a garden. The pulp of the fruit is very fleshy and has an aromatic flavor. It is full of vitamin C. It can be used as an interesting addition to fruit drinks, jellies, ice cream and marmalade. Its fruit is also used in dermatology and has digestive or cardiovascular properties.

Evergreen fruit tree, slow growing, up to 6m high. The leaves are dark green, silver at the back. The white and pink flowers have bright yellow or scarlet showy stamens. The dark-green oval fruit has a gritty texture. It is edible and juicy.

The feijoa is native to subtropical Paraguay, Uruguay, northern Argentina and southern Brazil. This shrub grows in rich and well-drained soils, in tropical and subtropical areas for high production of fruit. It is hardy to -12°C and it is sensitive to wind. The pruning has to be carefully done because if it is too strong the tree will not fruit during two years.

Direct sowing with temperatures of  20ºC.
