The seeds can be eaten raw or cooked as a condiment. From the resin turpentine is extracted. It is antiseptic, vermifuge and diuretic. Good firewood. A dye is extracted from the leaves.
Evergreen conifer up to 3-5m tall. Green-bluish neddle-like leaves and violet pine cones turning reddish when riping.
Requires siliceous, neutral and well drained soils.
Sowing in spring. Lightly cover the seeds and maintain the humidity until germination is completed.
