The wood is used in carpentry and cabinet-making and in the paper industry. Erosion control. Amongst the medicinal properties it is known to help against respiratory infections, rheumatism, haemorrhage. The resin is a source of turpentine and rosin.
A 30m tall conifer with blue-greenish needles. Orange-red bark. Big and conic, brown-reddish cones filled with pine nuts.
Prefers siliceous and light soils.
Direct sowing in spring.
