SEEDS OF WESTERN RED CEDAR - THUJA PLICATA

Tall, ornamental conifer cultivated for screen and hedges. Riparian. Timber. Bonsai. Highly appreciated for its resistance to decay, aromatic, soft and brown-pinkish wood. In the past, Indians used it to make canoes and totems. It exists a large number of cultivars for gardening.

Long-lived, tall and large evergreen coniferous tree. It can reach up to 60-70 m. Dark-green foliage. It is aromatic, reminiscent of pineapple when crushed.  Slender, long and green cones turning brown at maturity.

It grows in loamy, neutral, light, deep and well drained soils. Hardy. Fast growing. Coastal climate.

Direct sowing late winter. It is also possible to stratify in cold 1 month to obtain a more homogeneous germination.
