SEEDS OF ITALIAN CYPRESS - CUPRESSUS SEMPERVIRENS STRICTA

Ornamental tree and valuable timber, used for hedges, as an isolated tree or for landscaping. Cultivated to create windbreak fences and it is largely found in cemeteries. It is used in cabinet making and shipping industry. The wood is aromatic, light and resistent. The leaves and cones have astringent, diuretic and vascular properties.

A 30m high pencil-shaped conifer with dark-green leaves. The seedcones are small, round and green turning grey at maturity. Filled with seeds, they remain on the tree for several years.

It likes limestone and well drained soils.

Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours and proceed to sowing with temperatures 15ºC/20ºC. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 30-60 days before the sowing.
