SEEDS OF CAUCASIAN FIR, AMBROLAURI - ABIES NORDMANNIANA

Origin: Georgia, Ambrolauri.

One of the most important Fir species grown for Christmas Tree. It is popular for its attractive and abundant foliage. It is also a good ornamental tree in parks and large gardens and can be cultivated in pot. It accepts pollution very well that is the reason why it is becoming the ideal tree in parks and gardens in urban areas. The wood of this Fir is also used for general construction, paper and some music instruments.

Evergreen conifer growing up to 60m high. The leaves are needle-like, flattened, bright green and shiny. The cones have scale with an exserted bract and two winged seeds. They disintegrate when mature to release the seeds.

They are green at the beginning and become reddish-brown. Frost resistant, any type of soil.

Depending on the geographical areas and altitude sowing can take place from February to April. To obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 21 days before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
