Ornemental climber to cover walls, buildings and grounds. It is widely used in gardening because of its attractive leaves. It is useful to control erosion. The Indiansof America use it against diarrhea and urinary problems. The berries are highly toxic for people but not for birds for it means a good autumn-winter food for them.

Deciduous creeping and climbing plant which can reach 18m with attractive green leaves turning reddish in autumn. Non edible small dark-blue berries.

Prefers humid, deep and rich soils. Hardy -15ºC.

Direct sowing between February till April or to obtain a more regular and faster germination stratify in cold the seeds for 30 days before the sowing. It is possible to use a sowing substrate for potting or soil from the garden together with a sowing substrate if the sowing is made directly into the garden. The substrate must be wet but not soggy until the germination is completed.
