The Sponge Gourd is a climber with an edible fruit also used as a sponge. Very ornamental for its large flowers and its fruit. The fruit can be eaten as a vegetable. When the fruit is fully ripened it becomes fibrous and then can be used as a scrubbing sponge completely natural.
Annual vine of 2m tall with yellow and funnel-shaped flowers. Cylindrical fruit looking like cucumbers or zucchini in summer. It needs water and heat to grow.
Direct sowing outside after last frosts. Crop in autumn.
