Ornamental shrub producing edible fruits. Cultivated as an isolated shrub, in groups, hedges or rockery and even as a bonsai. It has also an ornamental value for its beautiful leaves. Produces a sour-tasting and hard edible fruit. Jellies and jams are made with it.
Deciduous and thorny fruit tree growing up to 3 m. The leaves are egg-shaped and shiny green. The reddish flowers grow before the leaves. The edible and aromatic fruit looks like yellow-greenish apples.
Adapts to any soils.
Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours and stratify in cold for 90 days before the sowing. Sowing temperatures 13ºC/18ºC.
