This plant is diuretic, laxative and can be used as a tonic. With the sap of its roots skin diseases can be cured. In the old times bread was made from its roots. Its long stems are used to make baskets. It is an excellent natural mosquito repellent plant. In Ancient Greece this plant was associated to death and was found in funeral ceremonies.
