Medicinal and ornamental plant. This plant is diuretic, laxative and can be used as a tonic. With the sap of its roots skin diseases can be cured. In the old times bread was made from its roots. Its long stems are used to make baskets. It is an excellent natural mosquito repellent plant. In Ancient Greece this plant was associated to death and was found in funeral ceremonies.
Perennial plant that can reach one metre with plump roots and long leaves, white flowers and egg-shaped yellow-green fruit.
It likes sandy and well-drained soils under hot temperatures. Native to Central and Southern Europe and North Africa.
Soak the seeds in cool water for 24 hours before sowing at temperatures of 15ºC/20ºC.
