PLANTS OF RED OAK - QUERCUS RUBRA

Ornamental tree to be used as an isolated tree, for street alignment and for reforestation purposes. Spectacular autumn foliage. Its wood is used in carpentry, cabinet-making industry, for indoor designing, but also as firewood or to make coal. Acorns feed animals. It is widely used in gardens for its spectacular red foliage in autumn.

Deciduous tree growing up to 35m with little oval red flowers. Large, elliptic leaves with triangular and pointed green lobes turning red before falling in autumn.

It prefers acid, humid and clay soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
