PLANTS OF ROUND-LEAVED OAK - QUERCUS ILEX BALLOTA

Ornamental tree for gardens, for reforestation and as a bonsaï. The acorns are mainly eaten by pigsMan can eat its acorns fresh or toasted. The wood is of a great value too.

Evergreen tree growing up to 20m of a height with yellow typical flowers. Coriaceous, long and oval leaves with a slightly thorny edge. The fruit is an acorn with a downy, appressed scales cup.

It adapts to any types of soils, except the flooded, very sandy and saline soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
