PLANTS OF COMMON ASH - FRAXINUS EXCELSIOR

Deciduous tree from 20 to 40 meters tall. The bark is smooth and grey with fissures that appear as it grows older. Thes leaves are lanceolate and compound. Leaflets are arranged in pairs with an odd one at the end. Flowers can be male, female or both. Purple catkin female flowers ripen and grow into seeds.

Forestry use. It is naturally found in Europe, Asia Minor and North Africa. Ash prefers to grow in deep, moist, well drained and fertile soil.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
