SEEDS OF KATSURA TREE - CERCIDIPHYLLUM JAPONICUM

The Katsura Tree is a spectacular tree very appreciated for its beautiful coloured foliage in autumn. The main curiosity of this tree is the toffee-like fragrance of its leaves in autumn! Many people surely know this specie as bonsai for all these reasons. It is found in parks and gardens near ponds.

It is a deciduous tree that can reach 30m in height with usually several trunks. It has heart-shaped leaves, dark green turning yellowish or scarlet in autumn. The pink flowers appear before the leaves.

It prefers neutral and humid soils. Avoid dry soils. Its soft and lightweight wood is used for furniture and joinery. It is not necessary to prune it, although if it were, it will be done in winter. Native to Japan and China.

Direct sowing at temperatures of 10ºC night/15ºC day. Lightly cover the seeds and maintain the humidity until germination is completed.
