Tamarind is known for its peanut-shaped fruits, which are edible and have multiple medicinal and culinary uses.
A tropical tree with edible fruit, growing up to 30 metres tall. It produces yellow flowers with reddish-orange stripes that grow in clusters. The leaves are small, oval-shaped and deciduous. The fruit resembles peanuts, with a pod containing brown seeds that have a sour or sweet taste.
It requires well-drained, deep and slightly acidic soil.
