PLANTS OF FALSE PEPPER TREE - SCHINUS MOLLE

Beautiful Mediterranean tree. Specimen or alignment tree. The frutit is considered a substitute to pepper. Medicinal properties. Fast growing.

The grains replacing pepper are used as dye and to elaborate alcoholic drinks. If you rub them on your skin it becomes a good insect repellent. The herbal tea made with its leaves is a good remedy against headaches and any other head pains. The bark and resin have healing, tonic and anti-spasmodic properties. From its leaves and bark essential oils are extracted for cosmetic purposes.

Small, evergreen, spreading tree with pendulous branches similar to the Weeping Willow. Reaching 6-8m. Composed and lanceolate leaves. Litttle yellow flowers. Pink berries with pepper-like taste and similar aspect.

It grows on siliceous, light, neutral and dry soils.
