PLANTS OF CHERRY PLUM - PRUNUS CERASIFERA

Small fruit tree or large shrub used in gardens. Produces edible plums. Used in parks and gardens isolated or in groups for the flowering and foliage. Prunes are sweet and acidic and can be consumed fresh or in jams, etc. Rootstock for other varieties of plum trees.

Fruit tree 6 to 15m high with deciduous and oval green leaves that turn red in autumn. Pink white flowers, the edible red fruit is the cherry plum.

Prefers chalky, poor and wet soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
