Persian Silk Tree

Ornamental tree found in urban and coastal areas, gardens for its shade. It is an essential tree for bonsai lovers.

Excellent ornamental seaside tree with high sea breeze tolerance. It is found along the streets, in squares and gardens for its foliage and attractive flowers. The bark is used to cure injuries and it has been found to possess antidepressant effects. In the traditional Chinese medicine it is believed to nourish the heart and calm the spirit.

The seeds are used as a fodder for wildlife and livestock. The sweet-scented flowers are a good nectar source for honeybees.

Deciduous tree growing to 3-6m tall with a broad crown. Attractive and scented flowers vary from cream-coloured to pale pink. They look like silky pompoms when blooming. Dark-green leaves.

Adapts to any deep, sandy and light soils under hot climates. When young the tree needs to be watered when soil dries but once it is older it tolerates summer drought.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
