Remarkable tree for its tolerance of urban pollution. Also wind tolerant so it makes it a popular tree for planting along paths and avenues in the cities. Essential tree for bonsai lovers. Carpenters, turners and joiners like its whitish and strong wood. The flowers, fruit and bark have been used for their medicinal properties.
Large deciduous tree reaching 30-40m of height. Smooth and greyish bark. The leaves are dark green in color with a paler underside. They turn golden in autumn. The yellow-greenish flowers hang in dangling flowerheads. Its samaras are borne in pairs and ripe for late summer.
It needs the siliceous, cool and deep soils of the slopes and valleys of the mountainous regions. Resists frost and cool temperatures. Strong rooting system.
Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
