PLANTS OF MONTPELLIER MAPLE - ACER MONSPESSULANUM

An ornamental tree perfect for hedges, parks and small gardens. Used in the art of bonsai. Its hard and strong wood is popular in cabinet making to create luxurious objects and in framework. It is also a good firewood. The leaves are used as fodder. It is used in landscaping, to fix the riverbanks, to control floods and erosion, in slopes.

Deciduous, dense tree reaching 10m. The wood of the young trees is greyish and smooth becoming finely fissured on old trees. The lobe leaves are dark green and they are porous. The flowers grow in bunches and they are yellow-greenish. It needs siliceous, dry and rocky soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
