Ornamental shrub for landscaping, erosion control, gamecover. It can be grown in rockery gardens, edges and to shape hedges. The wood is of a great value. This plant attracts birds so it is cultivated in natural spaces, woods and parks to let them build their nests and feed them.
Thorny and evergreen shrub up to 1-2m. Green lanceolate and narrow leaves. Little green-yellowish flowers in spring. Black fruit.
Developps on sandy, acid and slightly humid soils. Hot and cold tolerant.
Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
