PLANTS OF FIRETHORN - PYRACANTHA COCCINEA
Ornamental shrub for parks, gardens and to shape hedges. Bonsai. With the berries, marmelade is made. The seeds can replace coffee. It is found on walls, in bushes and on stony slopes. It is used in landscaping restoration.
Thorny deciduous shrub growing up to 3m with white flowers. Lanceolate and oval leaves with a serrated edge. It has little bright red, orange or yellowish berries looking like peas.
Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
