Spectacular flowering for this small tree. It is used mainly in gardening for its flowers. Rapid growth. The leaves are good fodder for the cattle. Hard wood used in the manufacture of tools. Tannins are obtained from the bark.

Small to medium-size semi-deciduous tree growing to 5-7 m tall. Large, heart-shaped leaves. Beautiful, fragrant flowers from pink to purple appearing on the branches before the leaves. The fruit is a striking green pod, brown when ripe that contains the seeds.
