Crownvetch is a shrub used in a garden for edges, rockery or to form hedges. It is also used in landscaping in critical Mediterranean areas creating semi-arid scrublands. The seeds are toxic but have a type of glycoside that allows regulating and increasing the cardiac tone in cases of cardiac weakness. It is only to be used under medical control.
Perennial, junciform shrub up to 1.5m tall with alternate glaucous leaves and yellow flowers arranged in umbels. The fruit is a legume. It grows in limestone, light and basic soils.
