Cordyline australis ‘Pink Passion’ is a very striking variety for use in Mediterranean gardens, terraces, and large pots. In cold climates, it is grown in pots to protect it in winter. Spectacular color all year round.
Native to New Zealand, this plant is well suited to the Mediterranean climate, where it can be grown outdoors. It tolerates drought and heat quite well. It is resistant to wind and salinity, making it an ideal plant for coastal areas.
Perennial plant with a vertical growth habit, similar to a small palm tree. Long, violet-purple sword-shaped leaves with very intense fuchsia pink edges. In summer, it produces large panicles of fragrant white flowers and then bluish-white fruits. It can reach 3 m in optimal conditions or usually remain at 1 to 2 meters in height and 1 meter in width. Slow growth, first in a rosette, then forming a trunk.
Low-maintenance plant. Prefers a location in full sun to maintain its intense pink color, although it tolerates partial shade well. Resistant to -5°C. Moderate watering, keeping the soil slightly moist. Reduce watering in winter. Needs perfect drainage (sand or light substrate).
