Ornamental shrub for gardens, isolated, in groups or in hedges. Fast growing. Stems and roots are used amongst other parts of the plant for treatments in natural medicine. It is also used in culinary recipes.
Deciduous shrub growing up to 5m with attractive white flowers like snowballs. Palmed and egg-shaped leaves with a hairy underside. The fruit is a brillant red berry.
It prefers deep, fertile and not too dry soils. It is found in shady places and along waterways.
Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
