Ornamental tree used to shape hedges. Also used in reforestation. The berries act as a lure to attract birds. They are also used to make jams. It has astringent properties. The wood is very hard and used in turnery.
Deciduous tree growing up to 10m with little white fowers. Lanceolate and serrated leaves. The berries are bright red and are set in branches.
Prefers slightly humid and well-drained lime soils. It is grows naturally in the woods or on fresh and stony slopes.
Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
