PLANTS OF SPANISH BROOM - RETAMA SPHAEROCARPA

Ornamental shrub with medicinal properties for rockery, edges and hedges. It is found in bushes and on sunny slopes. In natural medicine it is used against severe respiratory illnesses, spotted fever and as a diuretic.

Evergreen up to 3m with very little yellow clustered butterfly-like flowers. Lanceolate leaves. The fruit is a straw-coloured pod filled with the seeds. It adapts to any soils but prefers most in dry and poor ones.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
