Mastic

Ornamental shrub with edible parts and medicinal properties to be grown in rockery, as an isolated shrub, in gardens and hedges. Bonsai. It is mainly used for its aromatic resin to make varnishes but also in the topiary art and in the art of bonsai. It is useful in case of acute inflammation, diarrhea, rheumatism and insect stings.

Evergreen shrub up to 4m with clustered very small flowers from yellowish to dark red. Spear shaped leaves. Aromatic, red and black fruit.

It adapts to any types of soils prefering rocky ones.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
