PLANTS OF GUARA ALMOND - PRUNUS DULCIS VAR. GUARA

The Guara almond tree is one of the most important varieties because of its late blooming making it more frost hardy  and its low water needs. Late auto-fertile and very productive blooming together with a good-quality fruit make it one of the most suitable almond tree variety in the mid-north of Spain. The Guara variety is sensitive to “Red leaf blotch disease”, incited by the pathogen Polystigma ochraceum. It has a high percentage of double seeds.

It is a 4m tall tree with a deciduous foliage. It prefers sunny areas and well-drained soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
