Ornamental tree to be cultivated as singular tree or in hedges and along riversides. The fruit is eaten raw or in marmalade. It has astringent, antidiarrheal and antibleedings properties. As an ornamental tree it is grown along paths and slopes. Horsewhips, whips and paddles are produced from its wood.
Deciduous tree of 25m tall with serrated and oval-shaped dark green leaves. The flowers are yellow-greenish. The fruit looks like a cherry and is sweet.
Prefers cool and light soils under temperate climates. Fast growing.
Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
