Ornamental tree, valuable timber, used for hedges, as an isolated tree or for landscaping. Cultivated to create windbreak fences, it is found in cemeteries. Its wood is aromatic, light and resistent. The leaves and cones have astringent, diuretic and vascular properties.

A 30m tall conifer with dark-green needle-like leaves. Pyramidal shape. The seedcones are round and green turning grey at maturity. Filled with seeds, they remain on the tree for several years.

It likes limestone and well drained soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
