A tree cultivated for its edible fruits and ornamental value. Bonsai.
The fruit is eaten fresh or in jams, cakes and ice-cream because of its sugary savour. The pulp is astringent. The persimmon contains carbon hydrates, vitamins, iron. The wood is used in cabinet-making.
Deciduous tree up to 10m with deep-green leaves turning to orangey and purple in autumn. Little yellow flowers. A big orangey and edible fruit known as persimmon.
It prefers clay and deep soils.
