Stone Pine

Forest and ornamental tree. It is grown for food industry for its edible pine nuts. Bonsai. Its wood is a good timber also used in cabinet making. Good firewood. With its resin, esential oils are extracted for perfumery industry. prevents and help in erosion control. Can be cultivated as an isolated tree or in groups. Its pine nuts are eaten for aperitive. They are a world spread ingredient in cooking recipes. But they are more used in the mediterranean gastronomy.

It prefers neutral, acid and light soils.

Dig a hole at least two or three times as wide and deep as the root ball. Take out the plant from the container and loosen roots to allow them to spread out in all direction. Cut possible broken roots. Mix the soil extracted with a substrate and fill part of the hole with the mixture obtained. Place the plant in the hole and cover with the remaining mixture. Compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
